School
Night Program Lessons Learned
or
"How
To Have a Successful School Night"
|
Basic tenets of all
successful School Night programs are:
"Be Prepared" and
arrive and leave on time with needed resources and materials.
What you should
have:
Adult leaders in
uniform or neat attire, handouts; youth and adult applications, dollar
bills and
coins for change,
extra pens, large manila envelopes for completed applications, a
calculator;
a first aid kit or
access to one.
Units should:
Prior to School Night -
· Build a positive
relationship with your school by doing flag ceremonies at PTA
meetings or service
projects at the school;
· Ask about putting up
a "Scouting Bulletin Board" a few weeks prior to school night
announcing sign-up
times;
· BE POSITIVE!!!!
At School Night -
· Have a full year
planned calendar to hand out to parents;
· Have a display of
past events;
· Have as many adults
possible attend School Night;
· An appropriate
activity for school kids while adults complete paper work;
· BE POSITIVE!!!!
· Know what positions
need to be filled;
· Work with the School
Night team;
· BE POSITIVE!!!
Presenters should:
Prior to School Night -
· Call to remind unit
leaders and District support team;
· Contact the school
to confirm date and time the week prior to School Night.
At School Night -
· Carefully make sure
money and forms are collected correctly;
· Call Kevin (if he is
not there) when school night is over to let him know how it went;
· BE POSITIVE!!!
District School
Night teams should:
· Play a supportive
but important role – flexibility is key;
· Adapt to program and
needs for any particular presentation;
· Most help will be
with paperwork at end of presentation;
· DEFINITELY BE POSITIVE!!!
